Food is a very important part of the Brazilian culture, and many of the social events revolve around it. Most Brazilians will tell you that they like to take a good culinary idea, and put a local twist on it. The sushi isn't like in Japan, the Hamburgers are made from gourmet beef and every meal has a lot of variety. The Vegetarian / Vegan dishes are also well represented with plenty of fresh produce, most of it grown locally.
The most popular Lunch style is called "Comida a Kilo", which is a varied buffet of vegetables, side dishes and Entrees. At the end of the line there is a scale, and you pay by the kilo. Great value for money!
